Stamp duty / AJD
The stamp duty or AJD in Spanish is paid by the buyer when purchasing a property.
This tax must be paid at the Treasury office of the Autonomous Region within 30 working days after the purchase has been processed.
The stamp duty is calculated usually at 1% of the price of the purchase but this might differ according to the region.
The tax has to be paid upon signing a public deed like notarial documents, registry office documents etc.
Good to know
This tax is officially set between 1-1.5% depending on the region you are in.
Sometimes this tax could add up to approx. 2-2.5% of the mortgage amount.
